AV Player: Video & MP3 Player packs a lot more than what's visible on the surface. Most users discover the basic playback controls quickly — but these ten features go deeper, and once you know about them, you'll wonder how you managed without them.
1. Gesture Controls (The Fastest Way to Adjust Anything)
Forget the volume and brightness sliders. AV Player's gesture system is far faster:
- Swipe up/down on the LEFT half of the screen → brightness control
- Swipe up/down on the RIGHT half → volume control
- Swipe left/right anywhere → seek forward or backward
A quick vertical swipe adjusts in real time. No button hunting, no interrupting your viewing experience. This alone is worth knowing.
2. AMOLED Black Theme (Best for Battery Life)
Hidden in the themes section: the AMOLED Black theme renders the entire app in true black (#000000). On OLED and AMOLED screens, black pixels are literally turned off — which means this theme can meaningfully extend your battery life during long viewing sessions.
Find it in Settings → Themes → AMOLED Black.
3. Picture-in-Picture with a Swipe
Most users know AV Player supports PiP mode, but not the fastest way to activate it. Instead of pressing the home button, try:
- Pull down from the top of the video
- The video instantly shrinks to a floating window
You can then position the PiP window anywhere on screen and continue using other apps while your video plays.
4. Playback Speed Memory
AV Player remembers your playback speed separately for video and audio. If you always watch videos at 1.25x and podcasts at 1.5x, the app remembers each preference. No need to adjust speed every time you switch between content types.
5. Hide Private Folders
If you have video or audio content you'd rather not display in the main library, AV Player lets you hide specific folders:
- Long-press any folder in the browser
- Select "Hide folder"
- The folder disappears from the main view
To unhide: Settings → Hidden Folders → select and restore. Perfect for keeping personal recordings out of your main library.
6. Screen Lock During Playback
Watching something while your hands are full? The screen lock feature prevents accidental touches. Tap the lock icon during playback to freeze all touch controls. A single tap unlocks.
Useful for: working out, cooking, handing your phone to someone else to watch without accidentally pausing.
7. Sleep Timer
AV Player has a built-in sleep timer — perfect for falling asleep to music or audio content:
- Tap the menu icon during playback
- Select Sleep Timer
- Choose a duration (15, 30, 45, 60 minutes, or end of file)
The app fades out and stops at the set time. No alarm, no abrupt cutoff.
8. Resume Playback Position Across Files
AV Player saves your playback position for every file you open. Come back to a movie three days later and it picks up exactly where you left off — down to the second.
This applies to:
- Long movies you watch in sessions
- Podcast episodes
- Lecture recordings
- Any video or audio file
The position memory persists even after closing the app or restarting your phone.
9. Sort and Filter Your Library
The default library view shows files by date added, but you can sort by:
- Name (A–Z or Z–A)
- Date (newest or oldest first)
- Size (largest or smallest first)
- Duration (longest or shortest first)
To switch: tap the sort icon in any folder or library view. This is especially useful for large music libraries or video collections.
10. Cinematic Dark Theme for Movies
The Cinematic Dark theme applies a deep dark background with subtle gold accents — designed specifically for movie watching in a dark room. The gold accents reduce eye strain compared to pure white UI elements while keeping navigation readable.
Combined with OLED true-black backgrounds and full-screen video, it creates a theater-like experience on your Android device.
